The Senate sidetracked sweeping immigration legislation Friday. The bill gained only 38 votes on a key procedural test, far short of the 60 needed to advance.
Illegal immigration is at historical highs. As Congress debates solutions, some say kick them out. Others say no, they may be illegal but they have lives here and employers need them. Part of the answer 20 years ago was an amnesty, while today the very word is a deal breaker. What changed?
What did you think about the proposed legislation? Tell us what you think.

I have been terminated from my Company Allen Spears to be replaced by illegal immigrants only because they dont have to pay taxes for them and they can get away with cheap labor. I wish to have something done about this because I stand truly as American Citizen. Who has lost his job because the company see a better benefit of using illegal immigrants Thank You and lets make a change.

I believe the U.S. is being sold out by the President. Build the fence, seal the border and remove the illegals already here by attrition. It took 30 plus years for this infestation to reach it’s current level, we can use the next 30 years to clean it out. Enact a law that makes it a felony to enter this country illegally after July 4, 2007.

The only way to solve this problem is to put real americans in office who really care about this country, instead of money and power. I believe the immigration problem could be solved like other problems we have just by getting rid of those who won’t and installing those who will. Our biggest problem is in Washington not Mexico.

Goverment is as much of the problem for illegals being here as illegals themselves a law is only a law if is enforced and our goverment only enforces laws that seem to benifit them.

Try to work alongsied some of these people.Sure not all are bad some DO try to learn English, most don’t.Try working with them when you work the same profession, but they are given the chance for free schooling to further their careers..we are not! Why? Because we were born here. Listen to them talk about getting help to live here, but oh, by the way they also talk about the homes they own in Mexico and go home to at least once a year..They also go home for dental work and other things. Listen to them talk about the Mexican flag being THEIR flag…Hmmmm. but, oh ,yeah ,let them live here..Right?

I’ve been to Mexico and have seen these things. People gripe that we pay SO MUCH to support illegals, what about the Americans that are behind bars? Doesn’t our tax dollars pay from them as well? Who cries about that? GET RID OF THEM!! Ship them somewhere else. I’d rather pay taxes to support an illegal, that will work, than to pay for a murderer or rapist.

Do you think that ALL ILLEGALS are from Mexico ONLY?? Do you think that ALL ILLEGALS are hispanic? If so, you are sadly mistaken. Americans don’t know how easy we have it. I don’t know what part of Mexico that lady has been to, but if she thinks that they don’t have problems with work and housing, then she must not have seen the families that were on the side of the roads selling whatever they could to make a little money. She must not have seen the little kids that stood on the street corners with a bottle of water trying to make money washing car windshields.

Illegals are criminals as they are breaking Untited States laws by just being here without due process.
I have been to Mexico in the Textile
factories US companies moved there. I did not see 1 starving or deprived employee. AND according to many companies there, there is a constant need for help to work for them.
It is not lack of food, employement, or housing, the illegals want Better food, Better pay, and Better housing. All of which their own corrupt goverment refuses to ALLOW. So take your fight back home, toss out your law makers, and make your demands on your own side of the border. Freedom is not free, we all had to make sacrifices and pay a price.

These people are invaders demanding equal rights with US Citizens!
Don’t confuse this issue. These illegals do not want to become American Citizens.
How dare they break into my house and demand that I give them aid and comfort!
Stop this invasion NOW! Build the wall!
Make all illegals register, and make all with a visa register again.
Set a time line. Register within 60 days or you will be deported!
Once they are registered, they must find work and begin to pay taxes within 60 days or they will be deported! Those that stay must apply for citizenship right away and pass an English proficiency test within two years.
NO FREE LUNCH! Register, Learn English, Respect the Flag, or GO HOME!

I think the illegal immigration issue comes down to a question of resources. The USA is running huge budget and trade deficits, and is facing insurmountable retirement (Social Security) and medical (Medicare) costs in the near future. There are simply inadequate financial resources to pay the expenses that the USA already promised. The USA can not afford now to donate the societal costs of assisting large numbers of needy people.

The nation was built on immigrants, but they were LEGAL immigrants. Illegals do not have any rights. They are breaking our laws by being here. If they want to be here go home and enter legally, then they will be welcomed. Everyone at the rallies shoulkd be checked for proper papers and if they don’t have them, they should be arrested and deported.

The very same xenophobic complaints made today over the loss of national identity and jobs being stolen from the dominant group have been made for years, decades, centuries.
I challenge anyone to deny that America is truly a nation of immigrants; our culture has always been one of diversity.
Concerning “illegal immigrantsâ€: that problem can easily be rectified by making them legal and reforming immigration rules to facilitate legal entry. Americans understand the benefits of having immigrants work and would rather they eventually assimilate into American culture than just come and go in the effort to make quick cash — hence the vehement opposition to temporary work permits.

The Hispanic-Americans I have known are amongst the finest, most hard working, honest, and noble people I have ever known – regardless of the legality of their being here or not. Those same people had familial ties that I remain envious of to this very day. They made it in Las Vegas despite the high cost of living by sticking together and working hard. Some of the finest soldiers and leaders that I served with in the Army were Hispanic, and I am glad to have had them as my comrades-in-arms.

OK all you Anti-immigrant people out there.
Here it is..Plain and simple.
I was run over by a hill-billy redneck trailer trash resident disobeying traffic laws. They fled the scene. They were caught after a manhunt, and had no license insurance or anything. It cost the driver $1500 to bond out, and now he is out living free again. I lost a leg, and my girlfiend is brain damaged.
I pray to god that something like this happens to people who support these Vigilantes minute man every day.

OK all you PRO illegal people out there.
Here it is..Plain and simple.
I was run over by illegal farm workers disobeying traffic laws. They fled the scene. They were caught after a manhunt, and had no license insurance or anything. It cost the driver $1500 to bond out, and now he is out living free again. I lost a leg, and my girlfiend is brain damaged.

Everyone has rights. People need to work. I am a proud American. I love my country. I work every day to exercise my right to freedom. I support my family. I pay taxes & am held accountable for my actions. I believe people should exercise this same right. Do not sneak into my country and make me absorb taxes to support you. I do not know other languages and I know it is becoming difficult to live in the country in which I was born when other countries citizens come here and attempt to change my language (which is English). I live with my countries rules and mandates and do not go to other countries and attempt to make them conform to suit me. I believe in citizens from other countries coming to America to live and offer a better life.

In response to the tax question, Mexicans get taxed too. But the only difference is they don’t get an income tax check.
Oh and a little competition never hurt anyone. So we take some odd jobs that americans don’t want. That doesn’t mean we are going to take the country over. Struggling, if you ever seen a mexican(not americanized) work you will see that they do a great job. I wish people would do some research or read some books before posting here.

In response your the so claimed assistance you should probably do some research before you make your accusations. Illegal immigrants don’t get financial assistance, public assistance from the goverment. In response to terrorism, if terrorist want to get in they will get in any ways. So don’t use this as an excuse to stop Mexican people from coming here. When other people from other countries came here as refugees, everyone gave them open. Now we want to work and you want to stick us in jail. Don’t forget Americans took this land from the Indians. And we too were slaves. But where are the people who will stand up for us. They say we’re criminals, but every color has its criminals.

Send them back to mexico, I wrote a long opinion and was forced to abandon it, The illegals use our resources, and the Citizens of the USA don’t qualify for desperately needed assistance.
They are agressive and nasty people who refuse to try to fit in. Just want a free hand out.
I am not a racist or hate monger, just tired of listening to conversations in spanish, seeing the Mexican flag flying over US soil, realizing our national security is in jeopardy, and All of our resources being used and abused buy people who do not belong here.

Mean, mean mean…what is wrong with you people?
These people give a hard days work and ask a fair wage. They want a clean and safe place to sleep and to give their families a better life without waiting 6-7 years for part time permits. They are not evil.
If the rules about crossing the boarders were changed many of them would be able return to their original country and share time with their families much like workers between States do now.
Any law that stops people from freely supporting families with their own labor is mean, unamerican and unchristian!

The United States will lose its sovereignty if the immigration laws are not enforced immediately!

All of these Spanish on TV claim to be paying taxes. How are illegal immigrants paying income tax? Are they able to get a Social Security number? Are they really paying income tax?
They say “All we want is a good life”. What about the burden they put on tax paying Americans struggling for a good life, also?
In this post 9/11 world, we are crazy if we let ILLEGAL immigrants demand that we change our laws.
But, I would not be suprised if Gov. Jeb Bush didn’t take the day off to go fly a flag in their support.

I am sorry,

If your so proud -GO BACK THERE !! We give in to some and where do we draw the line. We make you all legal and more illegals come over - Problem just made worse. Make you all legal - Are you kidding me ?

We don’t want to do the jobs they do? Of course not, why would we work for let’s say 3 dollars and hour. Why is it 3 dollars an hour? because they know they can get away with it with the illegal aliens. I guarantee that if they would all be kicked out, the owners would have to raise the wages to a competative wage lets say 8-10 an hour. That in turn would make the americans WANT to do that job. Pays more the Walmart even. Sure our grape products would rise slightly but who cares, AMERICANS are working!

These comments overwhelmingly show how people really feel. Yet everything we see and hear in the media lends sympathy to these criminals. Where is our government while this invasion grows? Secure OUR border!
