Dont be fooled by the rep. telling you they are taking jobs no one will take.I work as a aircraft repair tech for the airlines.Mexicans are going after jobs like this that pay 60,000 a yr.and up.I was in college with them in houston tx and they are getting trained for high tech jobs. Some air tech jobs are requring spanish speaking techs. What does this tell you? People better wakeup or you will not find a job unless you are spanish. Call yor state rep. and tell them to do ther jobs and enforce our laws and quit giving them a free ride

Niki and Rita-  Too bad the truth comes out!  ‘..jobs nobody wants..’ doesn’t work anymore.  They want good jobs without learning English, sometimes with disastrous results. You MUST become an AMERICAN to stay here, and it begins with learning ENGLISH!

Why aren’t political candidates talking about this issue?  Only Gallagher and a handful of local candidates even mention it.  These comments show me an overwhelming number of people want an immediate stop to the invasion of illegal immigrants. Where is our government?
What happened to our sovereignty?
Vote incumbents OUT!

One set of grandparents came over on the Mayflower, the other came through
Ellis Island in the 1920’s. I am not against immigration if it follows our
rules. I want a wall built, not a fence
and if we don’t know how to do it, ask
the Isralies.

Americans don’t like sneaks.  The rally proved one thing- that these people have no understanding of our laws and don’t want to learn about our ways.  The socialistic Hispanic regimes of Central America have failed due to corruption and incompetence.  Now their citizens want to come here, and make this place more like the place they were desperate to get out of.  Send them ALL back by making examples of a few of the worst criminals, and we’ll solve this problem permanently.  I will demand some changes in the next election by voting out incumbents!

I don’t see what all the fuss is about. Everyone honest thinking American knows in there heart a Country must control it’s Borders. We can’t have just anybody that wants a change to come on in….. No country in the world can do that.

Next what do we do about the very poor and dishonest way we have dealt with the boarder issue in the past.  I believe we need to bend over backwards to make it right.

You can’t tear family’s apart because we allowed this mess to happen.

I’d say it’s time for some of those smart guys in Washington to show us just have smart and honorable they are… By Doing the right thing.

We can still fix this mess.

Now, I have to say that I do support them being here. I am dating “legal” mexican, but you tell me what American will go out in the fields and work for basically nothing. You know they are not taking our jobs, they are working the jobs that no american WANTS to work. i live by the orange groves and the fields and I can honestly say that I have only seen mexicans working those fields all day in the hot sun. So when you say that they are taking our jobs think again. I think that if they want to come here and work for nothing let them. Let them help their families in Mexico, take it from someone who knows. And by the way I am an AMERICAN.

Posted by  craig mcnees, tampa on 05/07  at  10:28 AM

mexico has only allowed 15,000 immigrants into mexico legally over the last 5 years. they are taking the jobs no mexican will do for that kind of pay. open borders is a lot of bunk, the only ones in favor are the illegals, (who can’t vote here) and corporate american. what about american’s filing a class action lawsuit against every part of the government that is not doing it’s job of inforcing existing laws. hey, any lawyers interested? maybe the only way we can get elected officials to do the job they swore to do, is first to file suit against them, then file up in line at the voting booth. i also suggest that we put “none of the above” on the ballot, as an alternative. if “none” wins, then the job would be eliminated.

Until Mexico gets its economic house in order and makes it possible for the average Juan to earn an honest living, 20% of the Mexican population will continue to look for work abroad.  Fixing Mexico would require considerable land reform, tax laws that favor growth of a middle class, and breaking the power of the ruling oligarch families.  Since nobody gets elected in Mexico without some support from the oligarchs, don’t expect much change through their elected process.  Only when the Mexican people become miserable enough that they go on strike and shut down THEIR OWN country will something change.

Anyone who opposes unlimited illegal immigration is a racist, according to their promoters.

The truth is that those who accusingly scream “racist” need a mirror to find the real racist.

There are millions of Russians, Poles, Ukrainians, Indonesians, Chinese, etc. who would gladly follow the legal route and work in the US for the same low wages that the illegals do. Why grant only Hispanic illegals the benefits of this great country. Let’s have some DIVERSITY. The Mexicans broke the law and now they are arrogant and racist, demanding they receive all the benfits of this country, none of the responsibilities, that they not have to learn English nor become part of our culture. They want to be separate and (more) equal.

Honestly, let’s think about this for a second:

When did the word “illegal” stop meaning “against the law” ?

Really now, the question isn’t if the workers are needed, It’s that the illegal ones are here as just that. ILLEGALLY.

If you love America as much as you claim, then take some time, like many others before you, and become a citizen. Don’t moan and complain about America being a country of immigrants, because no one is saying that it isn’t. The difference is that those immigrants were here legally, and stayed legally. Why can’t you do the same?

Has anybody taken the moment to calculate how much time and money it cost our law enforcement personel to watch over the protesting event?  It also took away our valuable law enforcement personel from protecting the citizens and other duties that they have to enforce on a daily basis.  That day was a concern for me, and for the citizens of our Country.  Too many eyes were on the protesters, and not enough protecting what needs to be protected.

I see eight different comments all against the rallies. But I am positive that you have received emails in favor of the rallies. Why don’t you print those? Why are you only posting comment from one point of view? Why aren’t you giving equal time to the opposite point of view?

Posted by  Bill Wilson, Tampa on 05/03  at  04:08 PM

I have never been in support of illegal aliens from any country. Now that I see a group of people rallying and demanding rights for people that broke the law to get here and continue to break the law by staying I have become less sympathetic to their unfortunate situation. It is upsetting that US taxpayers help pay for services these people and their families receive while Mexico’s second largest source of income is US dollars sent home by Mexican workers who are here. Every US dollar sent out of America is one less dollar helping OUR economy. They would rather help their families back home than help the country that offers them a better life. This is not the type of loyalty I look for in a fellow citizen.

I read your choices of comments you posted, and I just can’t believe that not one pro comment was sent.

That’s not reporting that is laying ground-work to sway the minds the Americans. The minutemen made a remark to the media that the Mexicans are taking jobs the Blacks could be doing. Is that prejudice?
The movement for legalization of 12 million 2nd class citizens is not going away. Your right it has characteristics of the civil rights movement. Prejudice and discrimination has always been part of America. As the Blacks, the Hispanics will pay their dues. Say what you will, demonstrations, rallies and economic pressure are needed. Throughout American history no one has ever received a thing from the powers that be for sitting quietly, waiting to be handed their equal rights.

probably did.
as for the “real ‘merikuns” who appose immigration—legal or illegal, whatever that really means—have their minds made up that there is NO room in the U.S. for folks of color and different languages, their minds werent changed.  on the other hand, those folks who actually have souls can see the imapact those same immigrants make in our daily lives and will be motivated to do something to make our nation even stonger by including them.  not to mention that many “immigrants” are really new citizens as VOTE!!

Don’t need MacDonald’s, Perdue, Tyson or any other company who cheers illegal persons extorting the firms paying a livlihood and waving flags from other countries in my face. Close the doors on their food stamps, free mediciane and other hand outs. If they are so proud of their heritage and customs, why not return to their “homeland” and don’t try to change America

After picking up Tuesday’s Tampa Tribune, and pulling out the Pasco Tribune section - on the front page are immigrants piling on a Pasco County school bus to attend one of the Immigrant Rally’s in the area.  My concerns are who is paying for the driver to drive to this event, who is paying for the insurance and gas and why does this not seem right? I guess I know the answer to my own question. Am I now paying for immigrants to protest using school transportation?  Let them pay a bus ticket and use the HARTline.

Needless to say the issue is still immigration, not so much on who is here now but rather how many more continue to cross the border un-documented.
The rallies did show that many too many are still here illegally and have become entrenched in our society on a familial basis by marrying one another.
Best sceneario being, send half of all illegals back to Mexico, keep the rest and close the border.
The U.S. cannot continue to overflow this country, our resources are streched to much as it is.
The only other real answer is to draft all male immigrants into the armed services.
If they want to stay in this country they’ll have to fight for it just like we did!!

A Day Without Illegals
The truth of Monday’s demonstrations is illegal aliens are well organized and funded by special interests.
If organizers of the new Marxist May Day believed in justice, they would be organizing in Mexico. They would also be promptly imprisoned!
Mexico obtains more cash sent home from illegals than it does from oil exports.  Exporting Poverty is lucrative and furthers hemispherical political integration.
Emboldened by a cowardly Congress, illegals have widened the war on the middle class. Politicians fear the potential vote of an illegal and not the apathy of the non voting citizen.

Before May 1st, I was only perturbed at the illegal aliens and their supporters. Now I am totally mad at them all and the media, especially Lindsay Peterson’s yellow journalism. Cancelled my subscription to the Trib, wrote both my senators & my congressman. Am boycotting all supporters of illegal aliens, including McDonald’s, Tyson Foods, Perdue Chicken, etc.  Hope everyone else does the same.

What I can’t understand is how these criminals seem to think that breaking into our country illegally and then having the gall to demand rights and wave the Mexican flag is going to help them at all.  If anything this has emboldened me to right a comment to a newspaper showing my disgust and hatred that is developing.  I also don’t want to hear that I do not support immigration and that this country is built because of immigrants.  I understand this and do fully support immigration, LEGALLY.  GO HOME!!!
