PUNTA GORDA—Bystanders spotted a couple climbing a ladder into the cab of a construction crane Saturday 100 feet above the city and called police.
An officer, using a loudspeaker, asked the man and woman to return to earth.
According to a Punta Gorda police report, a naked foot popped over the railing and the two began to put their clothes back on. Officers said they were engaged in sexual relations, but let them go with a warning.
The man told police he climbed into the crane that night to photograph the skyline of Punta Gorda—he had a camera in his pocket to prove his intentions.
The incident became water-cooler fodder this week even though no charges were filed. The man, 23, worked at the Sunloft construction site and had keys to the crane. No trespass charges were filed.
He was so embarrassed that he resigned from his construction job, his father said.
